Wild Birds of Japan
Wild Birds of Japan is an original visual encyclopedia dedicated to the incredible birdlife of Japan. Created by wildlife and landscape photographer Taner, who has lived in Japan for 24 years, this project documents Japan’s wild birds through personally captured photographs and video footage.
The goal of this project is to photograph and record all 690 bird species found in Japan, from familiar garden birds and forest songbirds to mountain species, shorebirds, birds of prey, seasonal migrants, endemic birds, and extremely rare visitors.
Every image and video on this site is captured in the field by Taner, making this encyclopedia a personal, authentic, and growing record of Japan’s natural beauty. Through careful observation, photography, and storytelling, Wild Birds of Japan aims to introduce each species with respect, accuracy, and appreciation for the wild places they inhabit.
This website is both a bird guide and a long-term photographic journey — a living archive of Japan’s birds, landscapes, seasons, and wildlife encounters.

オリジナル日本の野鳥図鑑 は、日本に生息・飛来する野鳥たちの美しさと多様性を記録する、オリジナルの野鳥百科プロジェクトです。
このサイトは、日本に24年間暮らす野生動物・風景写真家 Taner によって制作されています。掲載されている写真や映像は、すべて本人が日本各地の自然の中で撮影したものです。
このプロジェクトの目標は、日本で記録されている約690種の野鳥すべてを撮影し、記録していくことです。身近な庭の鳥や森の小鳥、山の鳥、水辺の鳥、海岸の鳥、猛禽類、渡り鳥、日本固有の鳥、そして非常に珍しい迷鳥まで、日本の野鳥の世界を一種ずつ丁寧に紹介していきます。
オリジナル日本の野鳥図鑑 は、単なる図鑑ではなく、日本の四季、自然環境、野鳥との出会いを写真と映像で残していく長期的な記録です。
日本の野鳥たちの生命、美しさ、そして自然の中で生きる姿を、多くの人に伝えることを目指しています。
