It has olive-green upperparts, pale underparts, a clear pale eyebrow, and a distinctive pale crown stripe that helps separate it from similar forest warblers.

This warbler moves quickly through leaves and branches while searching for insects, larvae, spiders, and other small invertebrates. During the breeding season, its clear repeated song is often heard from shaded forest canopies, making it a familiar voice of Japan’s summer woodlands.
