The male is very colorful, with bright yellow-orange underparts, black upperparts, a yellow eyebrow, and a white wing patch. The female is much plainer, mostly olive-brown above and pale below, giving her good camouflage around the nest. In Japan, the Narcissus Flycatcher is a summer visitor. It arrives in spring, breeds in forests, then migrates south in autumn to winter in warmer regions of Asia. It is often found in broadleaf forests, mixed forests, mountain woods, wooded valleys, parks with mature trees, and forest edges.
