It has a glossy black top to the head and a white throat. The underparts and the back are a light grey-fawn in colour with the wings and the feathers of the long (16–20 cm) tail an azure blue. It inhabits various types of coniferous (mainly pine) and broadleaf forest, including parks and gardens in the eastern populations.

Azure-winged Magpie オナガ

The Azure-winged Magpie is a graceful, long-tailed bird found in woodlands, parks, gardens, farmland edges, and suburban green spaces in parts of Japan. It has a black cap, pale grayish body, and beautiful blue wings and tail, giving it a soft but striking appearance.

Social and active, Azure-winged Magpies often move in small groups while searching for insects, fruits, seeds, and other small foods. Their long tails and blue wing flashes are especially noticeable as they fly between trees with light, elegant movements.
