Japanese Pygmy Woodpecker コゲラ

The Japanese Pygmy Woodpecker is a small, active woodpecker commonly seen in forests, parks, gardens, and wooded neighborhoods across Japan. It has brown-and-white barred plumage, a short bill, and a compact body, making it one of the easiest woodpeckers to spot in everyday green spaces.

It often climbs tree trunks and branches while searching for insects, larvae, and other small prey hidden in bark. Its soft tapping sound and quick movements make it a familiar bird in both natural forests and urban parks.
